Poem or fragment from a poem written by Captain C.F.L. Templer, 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment. The quote comes from his published poem "The Losing Fight", part of anthology, "Poems and Imaginings", written by Claude Templer while a prisoner of war. He escaped in 1917, only to be killed in action on 4th June 1918. Reverse has a quotation from another poem, "derivation unknown", (part of the Dedication in Barrack Room Ballads by Rudyard Kipling).
