Whistle issued to sentry on Quarter Guard. 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment. Siege of Ladysmith, 1899-1900. For giving warning when the Boers were firing their Long Tom from Bulwana some 4000 yards away. When the Sentry saw the puff of smoke he blew the whistle and the troops took cover.
