German Naval officer's sword. By E & F Horster, Solingen. c. 1871-1914. Brass hilt with a lion's head, ivory grip with three strands of gilt wires, two hinge flaps to hold sword in scabbard. Slightly curved blade. With a black leather scabbard with brass tip, top and middle, and two brass rings. 33 3/8 inches long. Recovered from a barge on the Rhine in Germany, 1948.
